Digital Zoom vs. Optical Zoom

The Camera: Olympus C-2100UZ

This camera has a 7.0 to 70.0 (10x optical zoom lens) with 2.7 digital zoom feature.
The 35mm equivalent is 38 to 380mm optical zoom lens.
When you combine the 10x optical zoom with the 2.7 digital, you get a total 27x zoom or the 35mm equivalent of a 1000mm zoom lens.
The image stabilizer feature allows this photo to be taken hand held.

Which larger image is better?  Most people will choose the right image, the software zoom.
Than why use digital zoom? I think most people will use digital zoom. I do. It allows me a closer view right in the camera.

I just wanted my own example to show the difference. If you take a digital zoom photo, take the best optical zoom also, just in case you want to use it later.
